Springfield, Illinois – A Springfield man was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections after a fatal hit and run on Clear Lake Avenue that took the life of a man in a wheelchair.

Nicholas I. Mullett, age 42, was indicted in August 2022 for leaving the scene of an accident that caused a death and for driving with a revoked driver’s license. According to the police, on July 20, 2022, Mullett was driving a vehicle on Clear Lake Avenue when he struck and killed 68-year-old Terry Tippett, who was in his motorized wheelchair at the time of the crash.

On September 21, Sangamon County Circuit Judge Raylene Grischow sentenced Mullett to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and a 12-month mandatory supervised release.
